Zimbabweans tweets insults to President Mugabe, wishing he could learn from President Jonathan

Zimbabweans on Wednesday reacted
enviously on social media to news that Nigeria's former president Goodluck Jonathan had conceded defeat in the country's landslide elections.

Some Zimbabweans made reference to their own president Robert Mugabe, now 91, who lost the first round of
presidential elections in March 2008. Results were delayed for five weeks.
When it was finally confirmed that opposition Movement for Democratic Change leader Morgan Tsvangirai had won more votes than Mugabe, supporters of the president, backed by the military, embarked on a campaign of retribution.
At least 200 MDC supporters were killed.

Posted some tweets below followed by some screenshots...

Former education minister David Coltart tweeted:
So Nigeria has seen a peaceful transfer of power - why is #Zimbabwe still in the dark ages? #2008— David Coltart (@DavidColtart)

User @lykmoor said:"We thank Nigerians for voting peacefully. I wish if Zimbabwe could learn from Nigeria, from a collapsed state to Africa'as powerhouse.

According to the official 2008 tally, Tsvangirai's first round lead over Mugabe was not enough for him to be declared an outright winner. There were strong suspicions however that the figures had been manipulated to deny the MDC leader outright victory. Tsvangirai pulled out of a second round of voting, citing violence against his supporters. Mugabe was eventually pushed by the regional SADC grouping into a.power-sharing government that lasted four years.

In contrast, Nigeria's Jonathan on Tuesday swiftly conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler. Buhari promised Nigerians that "change has come".

"Well done Nigeria. Well done Goodluck. Zimbabwe do take note," tweeted user @LiyaJemima.

"If the Nigerian election had been in Zimbabwe the results would have taken five weeks or more to announce," said @ gidi_gabriel.

The state-owned Herald newspaper, which is the voice of the Mugabe government, carried an agency story on Jonathan's defeat without comment.

Tsvangirai decided to contest presidential elections in July 2013, even though many electoral reforms he had called for had not been implemented and his party did not have access to the electoral roll. The MDC leader lost to Mugabe, who has been in power in Zimbabwe since independence in 1980.

I will not accept a renewal when my tenure Expires- Jega

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, has declared that he would not serve another term as boss of the electoral body when his first tenure expires in June, even if he is asked.

Speaking in an interview with the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC Hausa) Jega said  having played his role in the political space for five years, it was time another person was given the chance to contribute his own quota.

The nation’s chief electoral officer in the just- concluded March 28 presidential election acknowledged that the task of leading INEC was a difficult one, and said he was not interested in tenure renewal and would not accept an offer of extension.

“I am grateful to God. I was asked to come and contribute my own quota to the national development and I have done my bit to the best of my ability.
“Whatever assignment one will do for five years – just like this difficult one, to me if one is able to successfully accomplish the task, someone else should be given the opportunity, because for me I am not interested and if I am requested to serve again, I will not do it, by God’s grace,” Jega said.

He noted that the introduction of the card reader device in the 2015 general elections had significantly helped to make the presidential election transparent, adding that there were few challenges that would be looked into in the forthcoming governorship/state assembly elections, including late coming attitude of electoral officials to polling centres.

Commenting on the allegations of bias against him by PDP chieftain, Mr Godsday Orubebe, at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on Tuesday, Jega said he was unperturbed because he knew he had nothing to hide.

“I maintained my calmness because I knew all the allegations were false. There is nothing that frightens me or disturbs me because, of all our actions, we have explanations for them,” he added.

Jega was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2010 to replace Prof Maurice Iwu. His five-year tenure elapses in June this year.

As a mother of 3 said "I don't care about my flabby body,I was blessed enough to Carry my babies"

A photo of a mother-of-three wearing a bikini and showing off her “permanently flabby” post-baby figure has gone viral for its empowering message about body image.

On Saturday, Rachel Hollis, founder of the lifestyle website The Chic Site, posted a photo of herself wearing a two-piece bathing suit while on the beach in Cancun with her husband of 11 years. “We were just hanging out drinking tequila and I thought my monogramed bikini top was really cool so I asked my husband to take a photo of me,” Hollis, 32, tells Yahoo Parenting. “When I saw the photo, I noticed my stomach and realized that I had never seen a really honest bikini shot on social media, so I thought, ‘I’ll just post this for the moms.’”

Read Gen. Buhari's press Statement after being declared President elect by INEC

BRIEF PRESS STATEMENT BY GENERAL MUHAMMADU BUHARI,GCFR, PRESIDENT ELECT ON THE PLATFORM OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS, APC. MARCH 31ST,2015

At exactly 5:15pm this evening President Jonathan called to congratulate me on my victory. For this I want all Nigerians to join me in congratulating and appreciating Mr President for his statesmanship.

President Jonathan engaged in a spirited campaign and was a worthy opponent. I extend my hand of fellowship to him. I look forward to meeting him soon as we plan the transition from one administration to another.

He will receive nothing but understanding, cooperation and respect from me and my team.

The good people of Nigeria, answered the call of history.

When the account of this fine moment is written, it will be said that it was the people themselves who led this nation to democracy.

You stood in line patiently for hours in the sun, rain and then in the dark to cast your ballots. Even when the vote was extended to Sunday in some places, you still performed your civic duty. You did so peacefully. You voted with your heart.Your vote affirms that you believe Nigeria’s future can be better than what it is today.

You voted for change and now change has come. INEC has released the official results of the Presidential election. INEC has declared that I gained the most votes with the required spread and thus won this election. In a more profound way, it is you, Nigerians that have won. The people have shown their love for our nation and their belief in democracy.

The declaration of INEC accurately reflects the will of the people. Whilethere might have been some logistical obstacles and irregularities associated with the exercise, the result shall stand as what the people want.

I thank all Nigerians who have made this day possible. Our country has now joined the community of nations that have used the ballot box to peacefully change an incumbent President in a free and fair election. To me this is indeed historic.
Most people will welcome the result because it is the one they voted for. Others will naturally be disappointed. I ask that we all be circumspect, respectful and peaceful in these times.

This was a hard- fought contest. Emotions are high. We must not allow them to get the better of us. This is not the time for confrontation. This is a moment that we must begin to heal the wounds and work toward a better future. We do this first by extending a hand of friendship and conciliation across the political divide. We hope and pray our friends in other parties reciprocate.
I thank all the members of the All Progressives Congress,APC, for their commitment and their hard work through the formation of the party, the campaigns and the Presidential elections. Let me equally extend my appreciation to the MEDIA, Civil Society and the Security agencies for their selfless service.
The International press and our friends abroad deserve special commendation for their support throughout the process. We promise a robust and dynamic engagement with your countries in matters of mutual interest to nations.
In the interim, I call on all Nigerians to be law abiding and peaceful. The eyes of the world were focused on us to see if we could vote in a peaceful way and carry out a representative election in an orderly manner. You have proven to the world that we are a people who have embraced democracy and a people who seek a of government by, for and of the people.
We have put one party state behind us. You have voted for a party and president that will serve and govern but never rule over you. Change has come. A new day and a new Nigeria are upon us. The victory is yours and the glory is that of our nation – Nigeria I will make a more formal address to the nation tomorrow after receiving the certificate of return from INEC.

May God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,
President Elect,
Federal Republic of Nigeria
